Creative Jumpstarts 01

I am so excited to share this page with you today as the very first Creative Jumpstarts challenge!  I love a good challenge and it's always fun to have a certain parameters in mind when creating pages.  I feel like they get my creative juices flowing, especially when I am in one of those awful creative ruts.  And this first challenge is super special because we have a fun little giveaway sponsored by Studio Calico!

CREATIVE JUMPSTART 01 // Use a combination of black + white and
color photos on your page.

Today's challenge is to mix together black and white photos with colored photos.  When I conceptualized this page, I had planned to added several 3x3 photos (both b&w and colored) onto my page.  But...I just couldn't make them all work together.  I'm not sure if it was the contrast of colors or what, but I decided to scratch that and start over.  Sometimes starting over is the best way to go, right??

I began my page by watercoloring my card stock background with colors that reminded me of fall.  I then decided on two photos and began creating layers on my page using book paper, patterned paper, a doily, tags and a glassine bag.  I love layers and I love contrast.  I love the way you can see little pops of the papers without any one paper being too front and center.

I then paired down my photos and selected two of my daughter.....one that shows her pretty face more and one of her sitting in the grass.  Although I couldn't make all of the b&w and colored photos work on this page, I sure do love how these two look together.  The contrast between the two is just so striking.

I finished my page with some handmade embellishment, tags and wood veneer elements.

My journaling is written on a tag and is tucked behind my photos in a glassine bag! (I love hidden journaling).

And while I'm not the best at adding titles to my page, I knew I wanted to add in "fall in love" somewhere on the page.  I tried several different placements, but fiiiiiiiiiiinally decided on the bottom right hand corner.  I used thickers for the word "fall", stamped "in" using my mini alpha stamps and then stitched on a "love" die cut (from Marcy's cut files at Studio Calico)!!

And that's a look at my page!  Be sure to hop on over to Marcy's blog to check out her take on this challenge.  It is beyond fabulous!!  AND.....we so hope you will play along with us!  There's something about challenges amongst creatives that is just so awesome!!  If you do play along, link up your projects both here and over on Marcy's blog, as well as tag us on Instagram using the hashtag #creativejumpstarts (tag Marcy and myself too while you are there!!).  By linking up projects based on this challenge, you will be entered to win an awesome giveaway from Studio Calico!!

GIVEAWAY | Studio Calico is generously giving away a main kit of your choice from The Underground. All you have to do is link us up to your page (based on our challenge) on either this blog or Marcy's blog. Creative Jumpstarts were created by Marcy Penner and Stephanie Bryan to challenge each other with their paper endeavors. Delivered in the form of bimonthly challenges, they encourage us (and hopefully you too) to stretch supplies, think outside of the box and to remain intentional about the memories we capture.  Challenges are posted on the first and third Mondays of every month.  Projects are shared on our blogs and on Instagram using the hashtag #creativejumpstarts. We'd love it if you'd share along with us at either of those places and be sure to tag us (@helloforeverpaperco and @stephaniebryan) if you do!

  1. Lovely layout! Did you use watercolor paper or regular cardstock? If it is cardstock...how do you keep it from warping since it becomes wet? Thanks!
