DIY Art Journal
Sometimes I get an itch to create, but don't want to make a huge layout or complete mini book. That's where this fun little DIY Art Journal comes in. I made this fun "journal" when I was at Be Crafty with Amanda and Maggie using the cover of an old book and some book rings! We spray painted the book gold at the workshop and then I painted the black diagonal part onto the front for a little more character. I hot glued in ribbon at the front and back of the book so it had a cute tie closure!
The inside pages are a mix of fun goodies, photos, book pages, embellishments and more. The best part about books like this is that anything goes! You really can add in just about anything - painted pages, watercolored pages, envelopes, etc! I find that I reach for this book a lot "just because" I want to make something!
Here's a look at a few of my pages....
Do you keep a random "art journal"? A journal that you can dabble in, put away and pick up days or months later? It's very freeing to have some kind of creative outlet and using a smaller scale like this book is perfect for me!!

Bloom Collection
This weekend is the Craft & Hobby Association tradeshow in Anaheim and I'm so excited to be going as the marketing coordinator for Big Picture Classes! Crazily, it's always been a dream of mine to actually go and see this show in person, and I'm so excited to catch up with old friends, new friends and more! One neck that I'll be sure to hug BIG TIME is Maggie's!! Maggie has a new collection for Crate Paper debuting this weekend and I can't wait to see it in person!! The new collection is called Bloom, and it truly is a breath of fresh air! Take a look!!
A little background about the inspiration for this collection: Bloom was inspired by Maggie's love of flowers and the fond memories she has of being in her grandmother's beautiful backyard garden. You'll find that much of the design in the new collection translates directly from this inspiration, including 6 different floral patterned papers, a stunning gold foil floral on vellum, and a large variety of colorful flowers, leaves and floral accents in the ephemera, chipboard and sticker packs!
Not only is BLOOM perfect for Spring, but it's also designed to coordinate with your everyday memory keeping, gift giving, crafting and more. The collection is filled with lovely feminine icons alongside cute trendy basics such as bows, hearts, labels and tags. New embellishments include 3 dimensional paper flowers, layered fringe hearts, a washi tape book, silicone shapes, mini leather tassels, clear stickers and more! As always, Maggie makes it all shine by layering gold foil and the perfect gold glitter onto many of her products. You will especially love the rich finish of the gold foil washi strips!
Today I'm sharing a few sneak peeks into Maggie's new product line! I love all the pretty floral touches and pops of gold. Maggie sure knows how to design a collection, don't you think??

DIY: Bucket List Banner
This summer, I had the opportunity to work on a fun project using Maggie Holmes' Open Book Project Life® kit from Hobby Lobby and I am so excited to share it with you today, as well as offer you a FREE download to create a project for yourself!
Using Maggie's Open Book Project Life® collection, I created a "bucket" list banner for our summer. You could easily adapt this to a fall bucket list, or even a thankful banner! You would have such a treasured list of items at the end of the month if you wrote what you were thankful for each day! And you even pair your fall bucket list tags with photos and create a cute little tag mini album! The ideas are endless!
Download the FREE instructions above here or by clicking on the printable and saving to your desktop! Tag me in your projects, or leave me a link here if you end up creating something! I'd love to see what you make!
Happy crafting!

DIY Accordion Album
Summer is slowly fading into fall around here. The temps are starting to drop at night a little and there isn't as much humidity in the air during the day. It's still pretty darn hot outside, but I can tell fall is on it's way.
One thing I really enjoy doing every year is to create some type of "summer" album. I have our June, July and August memories documented in my Project Life books, but sometimes it's nice to pull out my favorite photos from the summer and create a simple and easy mini album.
Accordion mini albums are so easy to make and are so perfect for a handful of photos. If you've always wanted to try a mini album, but weren't sure where to start, then I highly recommend trying out a simple accordion book. It can be made with just ONE piece of 12x12 paper, and the only else you really need is your photos. Hop on over to Maggie's blog to see a quick DIY tutorial, as well as the rest of my summer accordion album!

Memories
For some reason or another, I gravitate towards hidden journaling and interactive elements on my pages. Heck - I even put together an entire class about adding interactive elements into layouts, Project Life spreads and mini albums over at Big Picture Classes!!
I just love tucking a card in here or there, or creating a lift up flap to store extra photos or memorabilia of some kind.
Over on Maggie's blog today, I'm sharing, yep, you guessed it - another interactive layout of some of our summer memories. Creating a page with multiple photos just got easier! Check out her blog to see more!!

Maggie Holmes Design Team: Summer Activity Books
If you have kiddos, I'm sure you have heard "I'm bored" at least once this summer. My kids do a pretty good job of playing together or alone, but I still hear that "I'm bored" sentence a few times each week. Planning ahead tends to be key for me. We have a daily schedule (when the kids aren't in camp) that lists what we will be doing for the day. It's nothing to extravagant or crazy - just little things that they can do to stay busy AND be creative.
One of the fun activities on our list this week is to draw, write and tell stories in these cute little summer activity books. These books are SO simple and easy to make and the kids just love them! Stop by Maggie's blog for a quick tutorial for creating summer mini books of your own! The possibilities are endless for these cute books!
